The Major in Digital Entertainment Business, held in Amsterdam and Rome, offers students the knowledge, skills and mindset that are a prerequisite in entertainment industries characterized by strong emphasis on digital strategy. This prepares them for a career in entertainment companies – such as film companies, broadcasters, movies, and music distribution platforms – that have mastered how to balance art versus commerce, creativity versus technology, and inspiration versus data.

The Major starts in Amsterdam, at the new Luiss Business School Amsterdam Hub, with a broad training in general business disciplines. These include strategy, marketing, innovation, finance, accounting, and organisation. Next, in the core courses, students will learn how these general business concepts, theories, and models should be understood in – and can be applied to – the context of the strongly dynamic entertainment industries. More specifically, students will study topics that are particularly relevant in entertainment industries. These include: Blockbusters, recommendation algorithms, curation, copyright, managing creativity, release strategies, buzz marketing, and cultural policies by governments.

Amsterdam is globally known to be the city of canals, bicycles, and free-thinking. As far as business goes, it is defined by innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship. Luiss Business School's Amsterdam campus is located in the city centre close to all the action.

Amsterdam is a vibrant creative city that hosts many entertainment companies. Besides being the birthplace of one of the major video game studios and many globally successful TV formats, it is the headquarter of several large entertainment companies.

Upon completion of this programme, students have:

knowledge and understanding of key business and management concepts, theories, and models in the context of the entertainment industries;
the ability to critically assess these concepts, theories, and models by evaluating the extent to which they are applicable to the entertainment industries;
the ability to apply these concepts, theories, and models to specific business cases and company challenges in the entertainment industries;
an understanding of major global trends and how these might affect companies that are active in the entertainment industries;
the ability to report clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
the ability to cooperate and communicate constructively in multidisciplinary and international teams.
Students enrolled in the Major in Digital Entertainment Business will have the opportunity of choosing a further specialization by selecting one of the following minors to complete their educational path:

Script Writing
Audiovisual Production
Culture and Fine Arts
This final part of the programme, together with the Project Work, will take place in Rome, at Luiss Business School's Villa Blanc Campus, where we have a consolidated experience in Creative and Cultural Industries as well as a strong connection with companies operating in these sectors.

Rome has a long-standing reputation as the artistic and cultural capital of Europe and is also home to the largest film production facility in Europe. Moreover, Rome and was appointed (2015) as Unesco "Creative City of Film". Because of these characterizing aspects of the city, it only makes sense that the more creative part of this Major takes place there.
