Protection of refugees and persons of concern

The course is designed for all duty bearers whose responsibilities include protection for vulnerable populationsas well as organisations that provide assistance to refugees and persons of concerns. It is designed to meet the needs of persons already working in the field, officials of countries hosting refugees and persons of concernsuch as officers of the police service/force, immigration officials, prison officials, officers of human rights bodies and members of state bodies in charge of refugees such as Refugee Boards, as well as members of the judiciary.

It covers areas such as the context of protection, legal frameworks and international standards of protection, groups requiring special protection and the institutional and operational tools for protection. The course also addresses the practical challenges confronting the protection of refugees and persons of concern. The experienced Faculty would offer guides on how to navigate the complexities of protection and offer tools to enhance the protection effort.

The International Training Programme on Peacebuilding and Good Governance for African Civilian Personnel (TPPGG) was established in 2002 by the Legon Centre for International Affairs (LECIA) of the University of Ghana, Legon, Ghana, and the International Training Programme for Conflict Management of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, Pisa, Italy, as a response to the increasing need for well-trained, professional and responsible African civilian personnel to be deployed in international field missions.
